Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start psychotherapy for myself or my child?
The first step is to contact me—through my portal, by phone, or by email. We will have a brief conversation to determine whether it makes sense to schedule an appointment for you or your child.
The first couple of meetings are “get to know you” sessions. I’ll want to hear about what’s been happening and what brings you to therapy so that I can assess whether therapy—and the type I provide—will be helpful. After a few sessions, I’ll share my recommendations.
This is also an opportunity for you to see whether you feel comfortable working with me. If we decide to continue, we’ll create a treatment plan together, including goals, frequency of visits, and other details.
Do you accept insurance?
I am currently an in-network provider with Aetna, 1199 & Cigna in NY; VT BCBSVT, Aetna and Cigna. CT Aetna & Cigna. (Expected date of credentialing for Cigna, Aetna in CT and VT is 3/1/26)
If I am not in-network with your insurance company, my services may still be reimbursable through out-of-network benefits. I can assist you in submitting the necessary claims for reimbursement. Sliding scale rates are offered. Private rates are $175-$200 per session.
I recommend contacting your insurance provider and asking specifically about “out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental or behavioral health.”
Helpful questions to ask include:
- Do I have a deductible that must be met?
- How many sessions per benefit year are covered?
- What is the covered amount per therapy session with a licensed clinical social worker?
- Do I need a referral from my primary care physician before beginning therapy?
What is your cancellation policy?
I require 24 hours’ notice for canceled or rescheduled appointments, unless there is an illness or emergency.
Missed appointments are charged a cancellation fee.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept cash, checks, and credit cards (Visa and Mastercard). FSA and HSA cards can be used through my portal.
How long do sessions last? How often would we meet?
Individual therapy sessions are typically 55-60 minutes long.
Couples and family sessions generally run 60 minutes.
We typically meet weekly, or as otherwise determined based on your needs.
